FAQs
About Web Hosting

In order to publish a website online, you need a Web host. The Web host stores all the pages of your website and makes them available to computers connected to the Internet. The domain name, such as “sony.com,” is actually linked to an IP address that points to a specific computer. When somebody enters your domain name into their browser’s address field, the IP address is located and Web site is loaded from your Web host.

Your website is like a collection of different files. When you create a website you need a place to store all of these files. That place is your hosting company’s server. On this server, you’ll store your website’s media, files, databases, and anything else required to properly render your website. Exactly how much storage you have will depend on the hosting plan you choose (more on this below).

If you’re just getting started online, then you’ll be probably renting a portion of a server that you’re sharing with other websites. As your storage and traffic needs increase, then you may need to scale up to renting an entire physical server—or at least using the resources of one, with a cloud or VPS server.

When you sign up for a web hosting package you’ll usually get access to the server via a solution like cPanel. This makes it easy to upload your files to the server. Or, you can install a CMS like WordPress to easily build out your site.

Simply put shared hosting is

a type of Web hosting service that allows multiple websites to share a physical Web server and its resources among the hosted websites. Shared hosting logically distributes a Web server to accommodate, serve and operate more than one website.

Shared hosting may also be referred to as virtual shared hosting

You can determine that in a few different ways.

  • How much space do I need?
  • What will my website run on?
  • Do I need a high level of customization?
  • Will my site be collecting sensitive information?
  • How fast do I need my site to be?

Once you understand your business website and its requirements, it’s much easier to choose a web hosting service that actually suits your needs.

First, know what kind of hosting you require:

  • Shared Hosting: By far the most economical option, shared hosting houses several different websites on one physical server and resources are shared between them. This is a great option for someone with a fairly low-traffic or static website.
  • VPS Hosting: The next step up is VPS, which offers a guaranteed allotment of resources within a shared environment. It is still quite affordable and offers more customization options and greater stability.
  • Dedicated server: An entire physical machine is dedicated exclusively to your business and its website (or websites). All of the resources are yours and no one else can use them. The server is highly customizable, very secure and performance is rarely an issue. This option is great for high-traffic websites or those that are constantly adding new content.

And make sure the plan you choose offers:

  • Enough bandwidth for the maximum number of visitors you might expect – plus room to grow.
  • Enough storage space for all of your files including text, images, video, custom apps, and so on.
  • A plan that is compatible or even specifically optimized for your CMS.
  • A plan that offers an easy-to-use website builder (if you need it).
  • Most importantly – a plan that is reliable so you know that your website will always be accessible to guests and visitors.

Moving your site over to our service is a very simple process.

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council sets forth security standards to protect credit card data called the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS or PCI for short). That means, entities that transmit, process or store credit card information are expected to abide by PCI.

You can use hosting to setup your online presence and product catalog. You can then work with a third-party provider to process payments on your behalf to keep credit cards off your server (e.g., PayPal Checkout, Square Online Checkout and Stripe Checkout). Make sure you’re aware of any additional requirements to keep your business PCI compliant.

If you prefer to accept payments directly on your site, we offer PCI-certified products like our Managed WordPress Ecommerce Hosting. PCI compliance is a joint effort. So, when you use one of our PCI-certified solutions, we design our processes and systems to protect your customer’s credit card information and need you to protect your account.

Get paid with secure transactions both you and your customers can trust. Choose one or more payment methods from Stripe, Square and PayPal for your online store ( Ecommerce plan). This is separate from adding a PayPal button (all plans) or accepting payments for online appointments (Premium plan).
